Atelier+ Art Space — where art meets values and creates a live community
For nearly thirty years, Asociația Atelier Plus has brought together professional artists in Cluj-Napoca united by a shared conviction: that visual art is one of the most powerful languages through which faith, beauty, and human dignity can be expressed. Built on a legacy of exhibitions, creative retreats, and workshops, the association now embarks on its most ambitious chapter yet — the founding of Atelier+ Art Space, an artist collective of artist studios and exhibition spaces housed in a factory-converted space.
The project addresses a real and long-standing gap. In many evangelical communities across Romania, the arts have historically been reduced to music alone, a legacy of the Reformation’s suspicion of visual imagery. As a result, Christian artists often find themselves without institutional support, an audience that understands their work, and the confidence that their creative vocation can be sustained. Atelier+ exists to change that — by offering resources, recognition, and a genuine community of peers to artists who have too often been told to choose between their faith and their calling.
The space is designed to serve artists at every stage — from emerging students and youth groups discovering art for the first time, to established practitioners seeking deeper dialogue with their work and their tradition. Collaboration is central to the vision: Atelier+ will work alongside churches, schools, and cultural institutions to broaden aesthetic literacy and draw Christian artists more fully into the city’s cultural life.
Looking ahead, the vision stretches beyond Cluj-Napoca. Over the next decade, Atelier+ aims to become a reference point for Christian visual art in Romania and internationally — a place where art and spirituality speak to one another honestly, where beauty is understood as a form of witness, and where creative communities elsewhere might find a model worth following.
