The Punjabi Psalter Society
The Punjabi Psalter, commonly known as the Punjabi Zabur, is a precious heritage of the global Punjabi Christian community. This metrical translation of Psalms into the Punjabi language, set to indigenous music in the late nineteenth century, plays a vital role in the personal and communal worship of the global Punjabi communities, especially in Pakistan.
These Punjabi Zaburs serve as a life-line in building up the indigenous church in South Asia, however, over time, their continual usage and significance among the indigenous Punjabi churches are more at risk.
The Punjabi Psalter Society exists to preserve, propagate and publicize the Punjabi Psalms, for the glory of God. This is done by preparing biblically sound contextual resources in the local languages for Punjabi Christians to help them grow spiritually and stand firm in hostile contexts, Organizing conferences and exhibitions, celebrating Rev. Dr. Imam-ud-Din Shahbaz Day, and preserving the entire Punjabi Psalter for the future generations of Punjabi Christians around the world by making it available in audio-visual form for church worship using indigenous musical forms.
