Our Mission

Misión: AFTH existe para servir a la misión de Dios y de Su Iglesia, cultivando el desarrollo de instituciones de formación teológica en, para y desde América Latina.

Mission: AFTH exists to serve the mission of God and His Church, cultivating the development of theological training institutions in, for and from Latin America.

This statement underlines our core conviction that AFTH, and the theological education providers it supports, do not exist as ends in themselves, but to edify the Church and to serve God’s purposes, by equipping His people for ministry and mission.
The words “in, for… Latin America” highlight AFTH’s particular calling to invest in the development of Latin American (and Spanish language) theological education. However, AFTH’s scope is not merely provincial. The words “… from Latin America” express a commitment to contribute to the development of Evangelical theological education around the world, and to join our colleagues in other regions in the vital work of accompanying the global Church in its mission.

Visión: Somos una comunidad catalizadora, comprometida con el desarrollo de la formación teológica misional.

Vision: We are a catalytic community, committed to the development of missional theological formation.

AFTH is a strategic, Kingdom-oriented initiative that aims to strengthen the mission and build the capacity of Spanish language theological education providers in Latin America as they serve the Church. AFTH represents a unique Evangelical and interdenominational space for formal and non-formal Spanish language theological educators to engage, interact and cooperate.

AFTH’s Vision statement highlights the missional impact that the association aspires to, in convening, equipping and fostering Kingdom collaboration among Latin American theological education providers:

Vision: We are a catalytic community, committed to the development of missional theological formation.”

In furtherance of these strategic ends, AFTH will provide services that build the capacity of member schools and programs, grouped in three areas: Quality, Resources and Community.

AFTH will work to build capacity and strategic collaboration among the theological institutions of 16 Latin American countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela. Through cooperation with ICETE’s Caribbean association (CETA), AFTH will extend fraternal relations and offer services and opportunities to theological education providers in Cuba, Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. Similar agreements with ICETE’s associations in Africa (ACTEA), Europe (ECTE) and the United States (ABHE) will permit AFTH to serve Spanish language schools in Equatorial Guinea, Spain, the United States, as well as the diaspora of Spanish language institutions around the world.
