Since 1946, the UCT Student YMCA has been sharing Christ with university students at the University of Cape Town in South Africa.
The UCT Student YMCA is a diverse, inter-denominational community in which students are encouraged to discover what the Christian gospel is and what it means to follow Jesus in every area of life. We seek to prepare students with a vision to serve God and to pursue the common good wherever they go in society.
As a Study Centre, we host a range of activities designed to form body, mind and spirit. Community Lunch on Wednesdays and Wisdom over Waffles on Fridays are important times for fellowship and relationship-building. During the week students are welcome to visit our Hall for tea and (instant) coffee and to study, or to take a break from studying.
We also offer several Bible studies, daily prayer, an earth care reading group, a bimonthly course on theology, vocation and culture, as well as several graduate student gatherings. Once a quarter we host a Living Well Workshop designed to address the health of body and spirit.
Additionally, the eight students in our residential life program and the six students in our student leadership team receive many opportunities for life-to-life discipleship.
Through all of these initiatives we help students grow in faith-life integration, become equipped for life, leadership and service, and live a flourishing life in Christ.
